Fieldwire by Hilti and BoxLock announced an integration that displays real-time Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) status directly on electrical single-line drawings, enhancing jobsite safety monitoring capabilities for construction teams.
The integration, launched during Construction Safety Week, allows workers to assign LOTO tasks on electrical diagrams while synchronizing with BoxLock’s intelligent padlocks and tags. When field personnel update safety status through BoxLock’s devices, the information appears immediately on the drawings used by project teams.
Lockout/tagout procedures help prevent approximately 50,000 injuries and 120 fatalities annually, according to OSHA data cited in the announcement. Electrical incidents are 30 times more likely to be fatal than general workplace injuries.
The companies noted that electricians, despite having extensive safety training, account for nearly 25% of workplace electrocutions and 37% of electrical fatalities in construction.
“We’re always looking for ways to streamline communication between the office, jobsite trailer, and the teams in the field,” said Tyler Westfall, Senior Innovation Specialist in Rosendin’s Innovation Group, who contributed to BoxLock’s LOTO standards alignment process.
Brad Ruffkess, CEO of BoxLock, described the integration as setting “a new standard for jobsite safety and coordination.”
The system aims to address critical safety requirements by streamlining LOTO processes, enhancing regulatory compliance, and reducing manual errors. Real-time synchronization provides visibility to various stakeholders including general contractors, electrical subcontractors, and safety officers.
According to Puneet Raj, Fieldwire General Manager, the integration aligns with the company’s commitment to providing construction teams with essential tools for safer operations.
Key features
The integration offers several benefits for construction safety management:
- Real-time visualization of LOTO status on electrical drawings
- Two-way synchronization between platforms
- Enhanced compliance with OSHA and NFPA 70E standards through automated audit trails
- Improved operational efficiency and reduced risk
The technology is currently available for enterprise customers of both platforms.
Fieldwire was established in 2013 and acquired by Hilti in 2021. BoxLock provides connected padlocks and access control software designed to secure tools, materials and workflows on construction sites.
