DuPont Personal Protection and Epicore Biosystems announced a collaboration Tuesday to develop smart wearable technology aimed at reducing heat-related workplace injuries through real-time hydration monitoring.

The partnership combines DuPont’s protective garments with Epicore’s sweat-sensing wearables to provide data-driven insights about worker hydration levels in high-risk environments, the companies said.

Rising temperatures and extreme climate conditions have increased focus on worker safety, particularly following a 2024 OSHA proposed rulemaking for heat injury prevention in workplaces. The collaboration aims to address these concerns by integrating biometric monitoring with protective clothing.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with DuPont to unlock new worker safety applications for our Connected Hydration platform,” said Matt Marrapode, Vice President of Strategy at Epicore Biosystems. “Our overarching goal is to empower workers with personalized hydration insights, enabling them to perform at their best while minimizing risks associated with dehydration and heat exposure.”

Epicore’s Connected Hydration platform has already been deployed across multiple continents in sports, wellness and industrial settings, according to the companies. The system uses sweat-sensing technology to help workers proactively manage their hydration levels.

“Our mission at DuPont is to protect workers and to help ensure their well-being in the workplace. Collaborating with Epicore Biosystems enables our team to explore advanced biometrics in tandem with our industry-leading personal protective solutions,” said Liz Briggs, Global Marketing Manager at DuPont.

The partnership reflects growing regulatory attention to heat-related workplace injuries. By combining protective clothing with biometric monitoring, the companies aim to create more personalized safety measures for workers in physically demanding industries.

Both companies indicated the collaboration will focus on developing strategies that address hydration needs for workers wearing protective gear in high-temperature environments.
