Multiplier has introduced a Contractor of Record service designed to help companies manage global contractor relationships while reducing worker classification risks across more than 150 countries.

The new offering from the global employment platform comes as businesses grapple with varying international compliance requirements for independent workers. The freelance economy now exceeds $1.3 trillion, with 64 million freelancers working in the United States alone.

Addressing worker classification complexity

The Contractor of Record solution creates legally compliant contracts and provides country-specific workflows for contractors. The platform includes real-time compliance updates and built-in audit trails to reduce legal exposure, plus indemnification coverage against worker misclassification risks.

“Staying compliant is no longer a one-time exercise; it’s a continuous process that varies by region,” said Sagar Khatri, CEO of Multiplier. “In the U.S., businesses face the IRS 20-factor test. In Korea, ten separate factors determine classification. Multiplier’s seamless COR solution is built to navigate this complexity proactively and at scale.”

Global payment capabilities

The service supports payments in more than 120 currencies through various local methods, including bank transfers and cryptocurrency. Companies can consolidate invoices, payments, and timesheets within a single platform.

Local specialists work to ensure contractor engagements meet regional requirements and help businesses develop contractor programs across different markets.

Broader workforce solutions

Multiplier’s Contractor of Record service complements its existing Employer of Record solution, which allows companies to hire full-time employees globally without establishing local legal entities. The Employer of Record service handles payroll, taxes, benefits and labor law compliance.

The company has processed nearly $1 billion in cross-border payments as it helps businesses manage global workforce needs for both project-based contractors and permanent employees.
