ThunderCat Technology has been ranked the top midsize employer in Virginia for 2025 by Virginia Business, part of the publication’s annual Best Places to Work list developed in partnership with Best Companies Group.
The recognition places ThunderCat first among employers with 100 to 249 employees based in the state.
Employee experience drives ranking
Companies were evaluated based on workplace policies and employee demographics, which accounted for 25% of the total score. The remaining 75% was based on anonymous employee survey responses assessing satisfaction and workplace culture, said Best Companies Group.
To qualify, organizations must have operated in Virginia for at least one year and employ at least 15 people in the state. The rankings span three categories: small, medium, and large employers.
“The 2025 Best Places to Work in Virginia know what it takes to create a workplace that results in teamwork and excellence,” said Richard Foster, associate publisher at Virginia Business. “They put their employees’ welfare first, creating a positive environment for all.”
ThunderCat emphasizes culture and connection
ThunderCat Technology CEO Tom Deierlein attributed the company’s ranking to the strength of its internal culture, which he said relies on shared values and mutual respect.
“Leaders can set goals and provide challenges, but the ‘Best Places to Work’ are only best because people trust, respect, and want to work with their teammates,” said Deierlein.
ThunderCat, a service-disabled veteran-owned small business, provides technology solutions to public and private sector clients, including federal agencies and commercial firms. The company is currently ranked No. 48 on the Solution Provider 500.
The full list of winners was announced March 31 at an awards ceremony and is available on the Virginia Business website.
