U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer is launching a national “America at Work” listening tour, beginning this weekend in Northeastern Pennsylvania, to hear directly from workers, employers, and union leaders about their workplace experiences and challenges.
The tour aims to bring real-world insight into federal labor policy, with stops planned across the country. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the effort is part of a broader push to modernize labor practices and ensure that policy decisions reflect the lived experiences of working Americans.
Input from the ground
During each stop, Chavez-DeRemer is expected to meet with union members, employers, and community leaders. The department said those conversations will help shape labor policy in ways that better support both workers and job creators.
“D.C. bureaucrats shouldn’t be telling modern-day businessowners and workers what’s best for them,” Chavez-DeRemer said. “As a businesswoman and former mayor, I’ve always found that getting the best results requires listening first.”
The first event in Pennsylvania will include a roundtable discussion hosted by local union leaders and elected officials.
Focus areas of the tour
The department outlined several key themes for the listening tour. Among them are efforts to:
- Build partnerships between businesses, unions, and educators to strengthen the workforce pipeline
- Expand access to good-paying, sustainable jobs across industries
- Improve workforce development programs and economic opportunity
- Promote skills training, apprenticeships, and career-focused education
- Reduce regulatory burdens that may hinder job growth, while maintaining worker protections
- Support policies that balance the needs of both employees and employers
- Highlight successful community practices and encourage job growth in Made in America sectors
