Duke Energy appointed Cameron McDonald, senior vice president and chief human resources officer, to its senior management committee as part of broader leadership changes announced Friday.
The Charlotte-based energy company revealed several executive appointments following the planned retirement of Julie Janson, executive vice president and chief executive officer of Duke Energy Carolinas, who will depart July 1 after nearly four decades with the company.
“These appointments underscore the deep level of talent we have across our organization and reflect the continued progression of our leadership as we ensure continuity and drive innovation,” said Harry Sideris, president and CEO of Duke Energy.
The leadership shuffle demonstrates Duke Energy’s focus on internal mobility and succession planning as the company executes its $83 billion capital plan to modernize energy infrastructure.
Three other executives received new appointments effective July 1:
- Kodwo Ghartey-Tagoe, a 23-year company veteran currently serving as executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary, will succeed Janson as executive vice president and CEO of Duke Energy Carolinas.
- Alex Glenn, who has spent nearly 30 years with the company, will move from his current role as executive vice president and CEO of Duke Energy Florida and Midwest to become executive vice president and chief legal officer.
- Louis Renjel will be appointed executive vice president and CEO of Duke Energy Florida and Midwest while maintaining his position as chief corporate affairs officer.
Additionally, David Maltz, vice president of corporate legal support and chief governance officer, will add corporate secretary to his responsibilities.
McDonald and the other promoted executives will report directly to Sideris, positioning the HR leader at the highest level of corporate decision-making at the Fortune 150 company, which serves 8.6 million electric customers and 1.7 million natural gas customers across six states.
