The U.S. Department of Labor has awarded $2 million in federal funding to support workers in Washington state who were affected by recent layoffs at Boeing, including more than 2,000 individuals in King and Snohomish counties.
The funds, distributed through a National Dislocated Worker Grant, will provide job search assistance, individualized training, and other employment services to help impacted workers find new opportunities. The support is aimed at helping individuals reenter the workforce and transition into high-quality jobs in growing sectors.
The grant is administered by the department’s Employment and Training Administration and is designed to supplement local resources following significant job losses.
The funding comes in response to Boeing’s companywide reductions, which have created increased demand for employment services in affected communities. According to the department, the grant will enable Washington’s workforce agencies to offer follow-up support, skills development, and career guidance to those displaced.
The grant is funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, which allows state and local workforce development boards to apply for additional federal resources during economic disruptions that strain local capacity.
