The U.S. Department of Labor is seeking input from construction industry employers across Southeast Texas to establish accurate prevailing wage rates for workers on federally funded projects.

The Wage and Hour Division began distributing an online survey this week requesting information on wages paid for construction projects between May 5, 2024, and Aug. 5, 2025. The survey covers 32 counties in the region, including Harris, Galveston, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties.

“Complete survey responses help us publish accurate prevailing wage and fringe benefit rates in these areas,” said a Labor Department spokesperson. “This ultimately saves contractors time by reducing their requests for additional labor classifications.”

The survey aims to collect data that will help the department fulfill requirements under the Davis-Bacon and Related Acts, which mandate the setting of prevailing wages reflecting actual compensation in local construction markets.

Officials emphasized that participation is open to all construction industry employers, not just those working on federally funded projects, and urged respondents to provide comprehensive data by the Aug. 29, 2025 deadline.

The department will contact contractors already known to the agency with instructions on accessing the survey. Other interested parties can request information by contacting the Davis-Bacon Survey Center.

To support participation, the Labor Department is offering free online briefings on May 13 and 15 to explain the survey process. The sessions will provide guidance on completing the forms accurately, which officials said benefits both workers and contractors.

The survey results will affect wage determinations in building and heavy construction sectors across the region, potentially impacting thousands of workers on future federal projects.
