Google is taking a firmer stance on its hybrid work policy, informing certain remote employees they must return to office spaces three days per week or risk losing their positions, according to reporting from CNBC.

Jennifer Elias of CNBC reported Wednesday that multiple divisions within the tech giant have notified fully remote workers that their roles could be eliminated if they don’t comply with the company’s hybrid work requirements. This directive affects even employees who previously received approval for permanent remote work arrangements.

A Google spokesperson told CNBC that these decisions are being implemented on a team-by-team basis rather than as a universal company policy. “In-person collaboration is an important part of how we innovate and solve complex problems,” the spokesperson said, explaining the rationale behind the change.
