The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission secured millions in settlements and filed multiple discrimination lawsuits during its first four months under the second Trump administration, according to a report released by the agency.
Acting Chair Andrea Lucas said the EEOC has mobilized resources to combat what she described as discriminatory practices across private and public sectors, with particular focus on diversity, equity and inclusion programs, religious discrimination and national origin bias.
DEI-related discrimination enforcement
The commission reached settlements with six major law firms over alleged DEI-related discrimination practices, though specific settlement amounts with the EEOC were not disclosed. The firms also agreed to separate $700 million settlements with President Trump.
The EEOC’s Chicago office filed a federal subpoena enforcement action against Mauser Packaging Solutions, investigating claims the company made demographic-based hiring requests to staffing agencies that effectively segregated facilities by race, national origin and sex.
In Miami, the commission secured more than $215,000 from construction and auto mechanic companies for race and national origin harassment affecting black and Hispanic workers.
Religious accommodation cases
The agency filed suit against Marriott-affiliated timeshare companies, alleging failure to accommodate a sales executive’s Sabbath observance request under Title VII.
Since government and employer COVID-19 vaccine mandates, the EEOC received more than 10,000 religious accommodation charges and over 6,000 disability accommodation charges related to the issue. The commission has recovered more than $54 million for affected workers.
National origin discrimination
The Los Angeles office settled a $1.4 million case against LeoPalace hotel in Guam for alleged discrimination favoring Japanese employees over American workers.
Since 2019, the EEOC has recovered almost $7 million in foreign preference national origin discrimination cases, according to the report.
Sexual harassment and pregnancy discrimination
The commission filed lawsuits protecting young female workers, including minors, from sexual harassment at companies including Paia Inn and Taco Bell franchisees.
Since January 2025, the EEOC recovered more than $1.2 million in sexual harassment cases and over $114,000 for pregnancy discrimination.
Veterans’ rights
The Miami office secured a $400,000 jury verdict for a Florida veteran denied PTSD accommodation by a senior living facility. The Philadelphia office filed suit against a Chevrolet dealer for refusing to allow an Iraqi War veteran’s service dog at work.
Federal sector reforms
Lucas issued two memoranda reforming the federal EEO complaint process. The first ended monetary sanctions against federal agencies during complaints, while the second reinforced presumption of innocence for EEO defendants.
“Under the Trump Administration, we will not turn a blind eye to employer practices that deny American workers their livelihoods, dignity, and rights,” Lucas said. “I look forward to the EEOC continuing our aggressive pursuit of justice, individual rights, and colorblind equality under the law.”
The EEOC investigates and litigates employment discrimination cases against private employers and coordinates federal antidiscrimination efforts.
