The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will hold a public hearing on June 16, 2025, to gather input on its proposed rule aimed at protecting workers from heat-related injuries and illnesses in both indoor and outdoor workplaces.

The virtual hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. EDT and may extend over multiple weekdays depending on the number of participants, the agency said.

Individuals or organizations wishing to provide oral comments must submit a Notice of Intention to Appear by May 2, 2025. The hearing will be open for viewing without registration, with details to be posted on OSHA’s rulemaking page.

The hearing follows OSHA’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings. The proposed rule is part of the agency’s broader effort to establish national standards for heat safety, an issue that has gained urgency amid rising temperatures and increasing reports of heat-related incidents on job sites.

The rule would apply to a range of industries where workers are exposed to high temperatures, including construction, agriculture, manufacturing, and warehousing.

For employers, the hearing represents an opportunity to influence the direction of heat safety regulations that may affect staffing, training, and operational planning in heat-exposed environments.
